Plus Size Fitness Group Debuts at Full Figured Fashion Week™

Walking Curves™ will make a special showing during the international event being held in NYC

Atlanta, GA (May 12, 2011) – Walking Curves™ will make its national debut with The World’s Largest Fitness Class for Plus Size Women during Full Figured Fashion Week™ on Saturday, June 18, 2011.

Full Figured Fashion Week™ is a three-day international event that consists of fashion shows, panel discussions, networking socials, and now, in partnership with Walking Curves™ – a health and fitness initiative devoted entirely to the curvy community. The fitness class joins a roster of dozens of other impressive activities, workshops and events, and is staying true to Full Figured Fashion Week’s overall mission which is to empower and inspire plus size women.

“This is an exciting collaboration and a great opportunity to be able to work with an icon like Gwen DeVoe,” said Walking Curves Founder, Joy M. Tribble. “The fact that she has been able to transcend the mainstream fashion industry and celebrate plus size women is monumental in itself, but now she is including a fitness component which is unprecedented.”

Founded in 2010 in Atlanta, Georgia, Walking Curves™ is the largest group of women dedicated to the health, wellness, fitness and fun of plus size women. The organization garnered regional acclaim in the news media, among fitness enthusiasts and its patrons, when it coordinated the first ever organized group of plus size women in the southeast region to complete a 5K Run/Walk presented by Kaiser Permanente on Thursday, September 16, 2010.

Walking Curves™ is now looking to expand the movement to key cities across the country to spread the message of fitness and wellness to plus size women everywhere.

“I want women to feel empowered and to feel like health, wellness and fitness is an obstacle they can overcome,” Tribble said. “I don’t want them to be embarrassed about where they start, but to celebrate where they finish.”

Full Figured Fashion Week™ is a partnership of independent designers, retailers, event producers, plus models, and plus industry businesses that have come together to create an inaugural showcase of the very best in fashion for plus size consumers.

Full Figured Fashion Week™ (FFFWeek) will be produced by DeVoe Signature Events (DSE), an events management company with an extensive background in the production of plus size fashion related events, plus model training and management.

With over 10 years experience in fashion show production, Gwen DeVoe, CEO of DSE and Executive Producer of FFFWeek says, “It is time for designers, retailers, boutique owners and businesses with an interest in the plus size market to combine their resources and their talents to create a memorable event that will rival all other Fashion Weeks. We are uniquely qualified to make this event a success because we work directly with plus size consumers and know what they want. They want great fitting, fashionable clothing that is readily available in stores and online. The plus size consumer is a loyal consumer and because quality fashion items are so hard to find, they will be loyal to brands that they like.”

We believe that FFFWeek will not only provide an opportunity for independent designers to market their collections to a wider audience, and a unique opportunity for plus models to gain more professional exposure on the runway, but also a chance for the media, buyers and the general public to have access to collections that have not received the marketing and publicity they deserve. FFFWeek is also an excellent vehicle for those retailers and boutiques who want to expand their customer base.

Full Figured Fashion Week™ 2011 will be held June 16-18 in New York City.
